The Disinfection Center of the National Center for Expertise in Almaty took part in training exercises to identify a patient with anthrax.

The organizer of the exercise was the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control in Transport.

The purpose of the exercise is to improve knowledge and practical skills in taking operational measures aimed at preventing the spread of a particularly dangerous infectious disease - anthrax.

The exercises were carried out as part of a comprehensive action plan for the sanitary protection of the territory of Almaty from the importation and spread of especially dangerous infectious diseases.

According to the exercise scenario, a passenger came to the first-aid post at the Almaty-1 railway station with complaints of body temperature up to 39C, enlarged and painful lymph nodes, headache, intoxication, weakness, aching in the lower back muscles and abdominal pain. The presence of red spots and ulcers, with redness and swelling, is noted on the hands. The patient came from the Zhambyl region and planned to go to the city of Astana by passenger train.

After an examination, an employee of the Almaty-1 station medical center reports to the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control about the patient’s suspected diagnosis.

After confirming the diagnosis and evacuating the patient, the team from the Disinfection Center of the National Center of Expertise in Almaty immediately carried out treatment to eliminate the anthrax outbreak. The final disinfection began from the front door of the medical center, sequentially treating all the rooms where the patient was located. Also, in each room, the walls, ceiling and floor were generously sprayed with a disinfectant solution.

The disinfection team collected all items and materials to be disinfected and disposed of in special bags, closed them tightly, treated them with a disinfectant, labeled them and placed them in a hazardous waste bag.

This event was also attended by employees of the city clinical infectious diseases hospital named after. I. Zhekenova, National Scientific Center for Particularly Dangerous Infections named after M. Aikimbaev, ambulance station, JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and the Police Department.
