Today in Astana, with the support of the WHO Country Office, a roundtable discussion was held involving experts in the field of food safety on the topic: "Codex Alimentarius: results, lessons learned, and achievements," timed to coincide with World Food Safety Day.

The National Center of Expertise, with an extensive branch network across the country, conducts laboratory control of food products in accordance with the requirements of the "Health of the People and Healthcare System" Code, the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Food Safety," and the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union.

During his presentation, Chairman of the Board of the National Center of Expertise, Erlan Kiyasov, presented statistical data on the number of studies conducted and the level of detectability in examinations of food products.

He also highlighted the importance of interagency cooperation, noting the productivity in collaboration with the veterinary service of the Republic of Kazakhstan at checkpoints where imported goods are controlled upon entry into the country.

The National Center of Expertise operates internationally as well. For instance, it serves as a point of contact for internationally recognized systems such as INFOSAN and RASFF. INFOSAN is the International Food Safety Authorities Network designed for governmental authorities worldwide. RASFF is the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, aimed at rapid response by food safety authorities in case of health risks arising in the food chain.

"The National Center of Expertise continues to strengthen international ties, exchanging experiences and knowledge with partners from other countries. We are confident that only through joint efforts can we achieve tangible results in ensuring the safety of food products," concluded Erlan Kiyasov.
