At the invitation of Kazakh Agrotechnical University in Astana, Dr. Naylya Karsybekova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and Head of the International Cooperation Sector of the National Center for Expertise, delivered a lecture for master’s students of the Department of Food Safety.
During the lecture, she explained the structure of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, as well as its goals, objectives, and the process of developing international standards. Special attention was given to the importance of Kazakhstan’s active participation in the development of these standards across all Codex platforms and during the sessions of various committees.
Professor Karsybekova shared Kazakhstan’s experience as Chair of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Europe, highlighting key achievements and the country’s contributions as a Regional Coordinator.
The master’s students showed great interest in the topic, discussing the possibility of using Codex-related information in their dissertation research.
The Interagency Coordinating Council on Codex Alimentarius is designed to strengthen interagency cooperation in food safety, harmonize technical regulations in accordance with international requirements and WTO standards, support the work of specialized Codex Alimentarius committees, and develop Kazakhstan’s national positions on international food standards and their protection at the global level.
