Today, the National Center of Expertise hosted a visit by representatives of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing of the Russian Federation (Rospotrebnadzor), aimed at strengthening cooperation in combating antimicrobial resistance.
The visit by Russian specialists was part of the implementation of two administrative agreements concluded between the RSE on the REM “National Center of Expertise” of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and two key institutions of Rospotrebnadzor — the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology and the Federal Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology.
Since 2023, the NCE has been an active member of the Regional Laboratory Network on Antimicrobial Resistance in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. Joint projects focus on identifying and controlling antimicrobial resistance, particularly in the food sector.
During the visit, the Russian delegation held meetings with their Kazakh colleagues. The discussions focused on laboratory research, including:
As part of the visit, the guests toured NCE laboratories, familiarized themselves with technical facilities, reviewed research results from 2024 and the first half of 2025, and discussed opportunities for training Kazakh specialists through hands-on courses in the Russian Federation.
In addition, the parties discussed Kazakhstan’s participation in the 2nd International Conference on “Food Safety and Joint Efforts to Reduce Antimicrobial Resistance,” to be held in 2025.
Special attention was given to logistics issues — in particular, the organization of the collection and shipment to Russia of antibiotic-resistant microorganism isolates identified in food products in Kazakhstan.
This visit marked an important step in the development of international scientific and laboratory cooperation and reaffirmed that coordinated efforts between the two countries are key to effectively countering the global threat of antimicrobial resistance.
