The first death from tick-borne encephalitis was registered in Kyzylorda. Nurzhamal Myrzagaliyeva, Deputy Regional Health Department, told about this at a briefing in the regional communications service, a Liter.kz correspondent reports.

It was noted that recently a 46-year-old resident of the Sulutobe district of the Shieli district died from a tick bite. He was hospitalized on the night of April 24 in serious condition in the regional infectious diseases hospital. According to the results of laboratory tests, the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus was found in the patient's blood. According to preliminary data, the deceased fell ill on April 20 at his farm, where he was engaged in animal husbandry. A day after admission to the hospital, the patient's condition became critical. The doctors were unable to save him.

According to the regional health department, sporadic cases of human CCHF and rabies are registered annually in the region. In recent years, there has been an increase in unfavorable settlements for the registration of ticks - carriers of CCHF. Since the beginning of the epidemiological season, about 100 victims of a tick bite have addressed to the medical and preventive institutions of the region.

There are 117 disadvantaged settlements registered in the region, of which 28 are located in the Shieli district and 17 in Zhanakorgan. In 2016, the epizootic and epidemiological situation in the region according to CCHF was unstable. 1,612 people applied to medical institutions for tick bites, 38 of them were hospitalized. 17 cases were identified with suspected Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, of which five were laboratory confirmed.

Thanks to the well-coordinated work of doctors, everything went well, no deaths were registered. One death was registered in 2017. 6998 ticks were collected for laboratory tests, 160 of them gave a positive result. Since the beginning of the year, 97 cases of tick bites have been registered.

According to the entomological forecast, in 2017, due to the increase in livestock farms, an increase in the number of ixodid ticks is expected. There is also an increase in the activity of rodents around settlements, which contributes to the active growth and development of ticks. The regional department for the protection of consumer rights, together with the relevant departments in all settlements, is conducting sanitary and educational work to prevent the disease and protect against tick bites.

Since April 10 of the current year, in Zhanakorgan and Shieli districts, anti-tick treatment of settlements that are unfavorable for CCHF has begun. The first stage of disinfection work has already been completed here, and the work of the second stage has begun according to the schedule. From April 25, pest control work began on the territory of the city, 7 disadvantaged settlements will be processed.
