As the correspondent was told in the department, this year in the capital there are all conditions for the breeding of mosquitoes. It is known that these insects breed easily in places with good humidity, and there are a lot of such places in Astana this year.

"Annual monitoring shows that in Astana for the past three years there has been a large amount of precipitation - in winter it is snow, which in spring creates additional spills favorable for mosquito breeding," the ministry said.

According to the information of the department, the largest centers of insect distribution are Lake Taldykol in the Esil area, the right and left sides along the Kurgaldzhinskaya highway, as well as spills in the Saryarka region and along the old Karaganda highway.

On the territory of the Yesil district, where EXPO-2017 will soon take place, pest control work is already in full swing.

According to the regional akimat, vile extermination activities in the Esil region began on April 20. The centers of mosquito distribution were treated: shallow reservoirs, basements, swamps, small spills after melted snow.

At present, work on the first round of treatment of shallow water bodies has been completed. The second round is planned from May 15. As of May 12, out of 93 organizations serving the housing stock, 74 condominiums, or 79 percent, signed contracts for disinfestation and deratization. Disinsection was carried out by 49 CCCs, or 52 percent, deratization was carried out by 73 CCCs, or 78 percent.

In 2015, the Astana Consumer Rights Protection Department promised to eradicate mosquitoes in the capital by 2017. Then the department said that a large number of mosquitoes could scare away visitors to the EXPO-2017 exhibition and negatively affect the image of the capital.

In response to a correspondent's request, the Department of Public Health admitted that it was still not possible to completely eradicate mosquitoes in Astana.

"As long as mosquito breeding sources exist, treatments only lead to a decrease in the number, and not to the complete disappearance of mosquitoes," the department said.
