World Immunization Week to be held in Kazakhstan
Всемирная неделя иммунизации пройдет в Казахстане 24.04.2017

All over the world, vaccination is recognized as the most effective, economical and affordable means of fighting infections, the press service of the National Center for Healthy Lifestyle Formation Problems of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

According to the Consumer Rights Protection Committee of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2016, according to the National Immunization Calendar, an average of 90-99% of children were vaccinated in Kazakhstan.

2017 is half way through the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP). The plan was endorsed by 194 Member States at the World Health Assembly in May 2012 and aims to prevent millions of deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases by 2020 through universal access to immunization.

Expanding access to immunization is key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Routine immunization is the cornerstone of effective primary health care and universal health coverage, as it provides contact with a health care center early in life and gives every child a chance at a healthy life from birth.

In addition, immunization is a fundamental strategy for achieving other priority health goals, from combating viral hepatitis to containing antimicrobial resistance, providing a platform for adolescent health, and improving the quality of antenatal and newborn care.

Immunization is a proven tool for combating and eliminating life-threatening infectious diseases. WHO estimates that immunization averts 2 to 3 million deaths each year. It is one of the most cost-effective types of health investments with proven strategies that ensure that even the most hard-to-reach and vulnerable populations have access to immunization.

The key areas of activities of the World Immunization Week in Kazakhstan in 2017 are: building public confidence in immunoprophylaxis, informing the population, medical workers about the safety of immunoprophylaxis, the need to protect against infectious diseases and the consequences of insufficient immunization coverage for society.
